What is the Role of a Caregiver?

A caregiver may provide meals and personal care assistance. At the same time, he or she is providing companionship. The caregiver lives at home with the recipient of care.

The aim of the Adult Family Care program is to make sure that care is available, when it is needed, and around the clock and that with such support, elders and disabled individuals can stay in their homes.

The caregiver also provides a supportive relationship that features dignity and respect for the elder at home.

Caregivers may help with meal preparation, with medication reminders and assistance, shopping, laundry and  housekeeping. They may also help with personal care needs, with transportation to doctors and to social visits.

A caregiver helps people stay in their homes.
